Who We Are
Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM), which sponsors The Journey, is a national Christian organization that provides opportunities to grow spiritually and to put your faith in action.
We focus on what it means to be a Christian and specifically a follower of Jesus Christ. We emphasize unity and not a specific version of Christianity. You’ll be welcomed and feel comfortable no matter what Christian background you come from. Really, we welcome anyone open to learning about the Christian faith.
A major emphasis of our group nationally is missions and justice, which you can learn more about here or by reading below.
What is The Journey?
The Journey is our weekly event that we host at IU South Bend. At IU South Bend, The Journey is also used as the name of the organization to reflect our focus of being a ministry for everyone.
Spiritual and Ministry Opportunities
As a national organization, we plan and offer large scale events and opportunities. Specifically, you can choose from hundreds of state-side and global missions’ trips designed for students, take a servant-evangelism Spring Break trip, and grow through a week-long Collegiate Week retreat at our national conference centers in North Carolina and New Mexico, held every August. (See more detail on our Missions page)
Student Leadership Opportunities
Our group at IUSB provides many student leadership opportunities. Whatever your skills or giftedness, there is a place of service for you. Anything from helping with aspects of The Journey (our weekly meeting), using your theatrical or musical talents, planning events, leading Bible and book studies, writing stories, marketing and promoting the ministry, helping others grow spiritually one-to-one, leading prayer groups and small groups, planning service projects, representing missions opportunities to others, and engaging in spiritual conversations. If you’re unsure, you can discuss options with BCM leadership to help you find the right fit.
